Field of Three (2022) was an interactive installation that invited viewers to play a little mathematical game on a whiteboard. As participants solved the puzzle, they received a “grade” on the board and the answer was wiped clean for the next viewer to become a participant.

Field of Three
is about connections and mathematics. Throughout the work, there are multiple references to set theory, linear algebra, geometry, and analysis. There are three FIELDS within the piece for participants to complete. FIELDS are completed when each row, column, and diagonal contain a SET simultaneously. A SET contains 3 cards such that each of the card’s attributes, looked at one-by-one, are the same on each card, or, are different on each card. Each attribute must separately satisfy this rule. And each card contains three attributes: triangle type, number, and shading. Completing the FIELDS creates a positive connection to the art’s mathematical nature. Each attribute is a dimension, thus Field of Three is a mathematical 3D field. The art can be called the introduction of a mathematical lecture. Field of Three is also a repeating pattern of shapes, as well as a game, and an invitation to have fun.
